Castellane is a wonderful little town which is situated at the foot of a gigantic roc from 184m high and it’s one of the most characteristic places of the High Provence.
This little town has a very long and rich history. Half way between the Alps and the Mediterranean, stop-off point on the Route Napoléon and gateway to the North side of the celebrated Verdon Gorges, Castellane is a town full of energy, mixing its rich past, vocation for tourism and varied activities. All this makes this town in the Alpes de Haute Provence an appealing and endearing place to visit.
The small cosy streets, the central square with its hundred years old sycamore trees give this village a typical provincial character. You can walk to the chapel on the rock in a good 30 minutes.
The climate is exceptional with very pleasant temperatures in all seasons, the summer nights, underneath a beautiful sky full of stars are fresh and bring coolness after a hot sunny day. The nature here is protected and still virgin.
No matter if you’re a sportsman or a person that just can enjoy the nature, Castellane has a lot to offer: beautiful hikes, white water sports such as raft, kayak, canoe, hydro speed or canyoning.
You can go horse riding, mountain climbing, parasailing, go out on a mountainbike or go fishing... You can also swim in the lake from Castillon, or just lie in the sun and enjoy...
