The park was created in 1997 with the purpose to protect the natural and cultural heritage of the Verdon area. 180.000ha large, it covers part of both departments Var and Alpes de Haute Provence.

The idea is that the visitors in the future still find as much pleasure as nowadays in discovering the nature and the “savoir-faire” of the Verdon area.

The park has opened an information centre in Castellane which is open several days in the week and where the “ecogardes” give you documentation and good advice on hikes and open air activities.
